John
Early-career management. For people carrying the first weight of managing others: one-on-ones, feedback, delegation, hard conversations, and the shift from doing the work to leading it.
What John is
John is a thinking partner for the early years of a working life. That runs from the first job that turned out harder than the credential promised, through the first time someone calls you a manager and you aren't sure what that means.
The skills that earned the promotion are rarely the skills the new role needs. John works in that gap with you. Your first performance conversation. Feedback that lands. A direct report who is skeptical of you, or one who is older and more experienced than you. The pull to just do the work yourself, because it's right there and you're faster.
John also knows the unwritten rules nobody teaches: how to disagree up the chain, how to help your manager lead you well, when to say no, and how to make a real apology at work. If you are the first in your family to work in a place like this, John knows that ground too.
John asks more than it tells. When it tells you something, it tells you the truth.
What John is not
John isn't a therapist or a crisis service. It won't tell you whether to take the job, leave the manager or confront the colleague. It helps you find what you already think. It won't flatter you, either. Leaving every conversation feeling good but unchanged helps no one.
John isn't a substitute for a mentor who has lived this, a manager worth learning from, or a sponsor who will say your name in the room where decisions are made. It will keep pointing you toward those people.
If you or someone else is in danger, call 911, or call or text 988.
John is an AI
John is an AI, not a person. It has no career of its own. It carries what tends to help people through these first years, and what tends to leave them stuck. Ask, and it will tell you so.
How your conversations are held
What you and John keep together is your Leader's Log: where you are in your working life, the threads you are holding, the commitments you have made. It's written when a conversation is summarized. It belongs to you. You can read it, edit it, download it, or delete it along with your account, all from your account home. Nothing in it is hidden from you.
Your conversations and your Leader's Log stay yours: our administrators can't read them in ordinary operation. The AI model that runs John doesn't keep your conversations.
The Terms and Privacy set out exactly what is kept, for how long, and who can see it.
